Samsung could eventually think of bringing a more affordable foldable smartphone to the market if consumer demand and the evolution of the foldable segment surge more, and it justifies it, according to JB Park, President and CEO of Samsung Southwest Asia.

Speaking during a roundtable interaction with Indian journalists on the sidelines of Samsung Galaxy Unpacked in London, Park indicated that while Samsung has no immediate plans to launch a Fan Edition (FE) foldable, the possibility remains open as the category becomes more mainstream.

Responding to a question from Konark Tyagi from Jagran on whether Samsung could introduce a sub-$1,000 foldable to accelerate adoption in price-sensitive markets such as Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities in India, Park pointed to the company's existing strategy with its Galaxy S lineup.

"We have the Fan Edition (FE) for our S-series devices, which helps us make the flagship smartphone more affordable for consumers who are on a budget," Park said.

He noted that Samsung's foldable lineup is still evolving, adding that the company is now in the eighth generation of its Galaxy Z series but has not yet introduced an FE variant.

Park suggested that Samsung's future strategy would be driven by market maturity and consumer feedback rather than a fixed product roadmap.

"We are very adaptive based on the feedback of our consumers," he said. "In the coming years, when foldables are democratised, and more brands enter the segment, and if there is a requirement for us to introduce an FE product—a more affordable foldable—I think that's a possibility."

However, he emphasised that such a decision would ultimately depend on how the foldable market develops and whether consumer demand supports a lower-priced offering.

"It's all about the industry and how consumers respond to the requirements," Park added.

The comments come at a time when foldable smartphones are mainly considered a product of the premium segment. While Samsung continues to be at the top when it comes to the global foldable market, increasing competition from other smartphone brands and improving manufacturing efficiencies could eventually make the category more accessible across broader price points.

For India, where premium smartphone adoption is growing but value remains a key purchase driver, a more affordable Galaxy Z FE could significantly expand Samsung's foldable user base, particularly beyond metro cities.
