Samsung has finally put a launch date on its next M-series smartphone, and it looks like the company is doubling down on the features that have traditionally made the lineup popular: a big battery, long software support and a focus on durability.
The Samsung Galaxy M47 5G is set to launch in India on June 29, with Samsung already revealing a surprising amount about the device ahead of its debut. From the chipset and battery to the camera setup and software policy, much of the phone's hardware is no longer a mystery.

One of the biggest highlights is the promise of longevity. Samsung says the Galaxy M47 5G will receive six generations of Android OS upgrades along with six years of security updates, a commitment that's still rare in the mid-range segment. The phone will ship with One UI 8.5 based on Android 16 right out of the box and will include AI-powered features such as AI Voice Transcription.
Under the hood, the Galaxy M47 5G will be powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 processor. Samsung is pairing the chipset with LPDDR5x RAM and UFS 3.1 storage, suggesting the company is aiming for a smoother day-to-day experience than many rivals in this price category.
The phone will also pack a sizeable 6,000mAh battery with support for 45W wired fast charging. Samsung is additionally bringing bypass charging support, a feature typically appreciated by gamers as it can help reduce battery stress during extended charging sessions.
Up front, the Galaxy M47 5G features a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and Corning Gorilla Glass Victus+ protection. While Samsung hasn't revealed the exact resolution yet, the combination of an AMOLED panel and high refresh rate should appeal to users who consume a lot of content on their phones.
Photography is another area where Samsung appears to be making a strong pitch. The device will arrive with a triple-camera setup led by a 50-megapixel primary sensor with optical image stabilisation (OIS). It will be joined by a 5-megapixel ultrawide camera and a 2-megapixel macro lens. On the front, users will get a 12-megapixel selfie camera housed within a punch-hole cutout. Samsung says the handset will support 4K video recording as well.
In terms of design, the Galaxy M47 5G follows Samsung's latest design language. Official teasers show a flat frame and a vertically aligned pill-shaped camera module that closely resembles the styling seen on recent Galaxy A-series smartphones. The handset will be offered in Blaze Blue and Rogue Red colour options.

Samsung is also making durability a key part of its pitch. According to the company, the Galaxy M47 5G offers four times better scratch resistance and can survive falls of up to two metres.
With less than a week to go before launch, the remaining unanswered question is pricing. If Samsung manages to position the Galaxy M47 5G aggressively, its combination of a Snapdragon processor, AMOLED display, large battery and lengthy software support could make it a serious contender in India's crowded mid-range smartphone market.
