Qualcomm has introduced its latest mid-range and entry-level chipsets, the Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 and Snapdragon 4 Gen 5, at its Snapdragon for India event. This time, the focus is less on flashy numbers and more on improving how phones actually feel in daily use.
Making Everyday Use Smoother
A key addition across both platforms is what Qualcomm calls Snapdragon Smooth Motion UI. The idea is simple. Make navigation, scrolling, and app switching feel more fluid and less frustrating.
On the Snapdragon 6 Gen 5, Qualcomm claims up to 20 percent faster app launches along with an 18 percent drop in screen stutters. The Snapdragon 4 Gen 5, despite being more affordable, sees even bigger improvements, with up to 43 percent faster app launches and 25 percent less stutter. This could have quite an impact on budget phones, since lag continues to be a problem there.
Balanced Enhancements in Snapdragon 6 Gen 5
The Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 is for those who want dependable performance but do not feel like stepping up to flagship phones just yet. The phone will come equipped with AI-enhanced cameras, which improve picture-taking, and better gaming performance with its new Adaptive Performance Engine 4.0.
According to Qualcomm, the Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 will offer up to a 21% improvement in its GPU performance. Connectivity is also updated with support for faster 5G and Wi-Fi 7.
Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 Focuses on Core Performance
The Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 is built for everyday reliability. Qualcomm is highlighting up to 77 percent improved GPU performance, which is a significant jump for this segment. It also brings 90FPS gaming to the 4-series for the first time, something that could appeal to casual gamers on a budget.
Another notable addition is Dual SIM Dual Active support with 5G plus 5G or 4G, allowing users to stay connected on two networks at the same time without compromise.
“India continues to play a critical role for Qualcomm Technologies as one of the most dynamic mobile markets in the world,” said Chris Patrick, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Mobile Handsets, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. “With the launch of the Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 and Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 mobile platforms, we’re reinforcing our commitment to delivering the technologies users value most—bringing advanced connectivity, immersive gaming, reliable performance, and extended battery life to more users around the world.”
Devices powered by the Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 are expected from Xiaomi. The Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 will debut on smartphones from OPPO, realme, and Xiaomi.
Snapdragon Sound Arrives in India
Alongside the chipsets, Qualcomm also expanded its audio ecosystem in India with Snapdragon Sound. The company has partnered with boAt to bring the platform to the country, starting with the Nirvana Eutopia 2 Pro powered by the Snapdragon S3 Gen 1 sound platform.
Snapdragon Sound is designed to improve wireless audio quality by tightly integrating hardware, codecs, and connectivity. The goal is to reduce common issues like latency and inconsistent audio performance across devices.
"Bringing Snapdragon Sound™ to Nirvana by boat product series is the result of deep engineering collaboration with Qualcomm. From codec optimization to connectivity enhancements, every layer of the audio stack has been fine-tuned to deliver consistent, high-fidelity performance. This integration allows us to push the boundaries of what wireless audio can achieve," said Shyam Vedantam, Chief Product Officer, boAt.
With these updates, Qualcomm is clearly trying to improve real-world smartphone performance across price segments, while also strengthening its position in the growing wireless audio space.
