Philips Home Appliances has launched a new kitchen appliance called Philips OneChef in India. It has been designed to be an all-in-one appliance for daily cooking. The company launched the product in Mumbai with a unique ‘Chef’s Tasting Table’ experience, where guests had the opportunity to taste dishes created with inspiration from various regional flavours through live cooking stations.

At the event, Ranveer Brar, along with Gulbahar Taurani, MD & CEO of Versuni India, showcased how newer kitchen appliances can help simplify traditionally complex recipes without altering their core taste and authenticity.

What Can The One Chef Do?

The Philips OneChef brings together 33 cooking functions into a single appliance. It uses AmbiHeat technology, which relies on temperature sensing and even heat distribution to adjust cooking based on the dish and stage of preparation. The idea is to maintain consistency whether you’re cooking daily meals or more elaborate festive dishes.

Speaking at the launch, Gulbahar Taurani said, “At Versuni, our focus has always been on understanding how Indian households actually cook and designing appliances that fit naturally into those routines. Indian cooking is incredibly diverse and often time-intensive, which is why solutions that simplify processes without compromising flavour are becoming increasingly important. With OneChef, we wanted to bring multiple cooking techniques into a single intelligent platform that makes everyday cooking more intuitive and efficient. It reflects our broader commitment to reimagining the modern Indian kitchen through innovation that is both practical and purposeful."

Sharing his perspective, Ranveer Brar added, “Indian cooking is incredibly diverse and layered, and technology can play a powerful role in making it more accessible without compromising flavour. OneChef is designed to bring that balance, helping home cooks explore a wide range of dishes with greater ease and confidence.”

With this product, Philips is focusing on combining multiple cooking styles such as air frying, stir frying, steaming and boiling into one compact device. Instead of using different appliances for each task, users can rely on OneChef for a wider range of recipes. It also includes guided cooking programmes and simple controls aimed at making the process easier, especially for those trying out new dishes.

The launch event also included a panel discussion featuring Ranveer Brar, Gulbahar Taurani, filmmaker Farah Khan, and tech expert Rajiv Makhni. The conversation focused on how smart kitchen appliances are gradually changing the way people cook at home.

An Indigenously Developed Product For Indian Needs

At the event, in an exclusive and candid conversation with Jagran HiTech, MD & CEO, Versuni India Gulbahar Turani spoke about developing products indigenously in line with the Make in India vision. In this context, Gulbahar Taurani explained what percentage of the company’s devices are currently made in India and what bottlenecks it faces in scaling further and said, 'See, if you look at our full portfolio of Versuni, all the mixer grinders, air fryers, breakfast categories, and even some other products – around 90% of our portfolio is made in India. This OneChef will also be made in India in our Ahmedabad factory. The whole idea is to localise as much as possible, and the dream is to make it 100% local."

Further in the conversation, core component manufacturing was discussed and whether the company is still dependent on imports for it, to which Versuni's CEO said, "Currently, if you look at the air fryer category that we introduced 12 years back, it was imported. Then we localised it, but most of the components were still imported. But if you look at today, even the pan and its coating are being done in-house at our factory. So, component by component, we are not only looking at localising the product, but we are also focusing on localising the components so that the entire value chain is produced in India."

Lastly, in the conversation, he explained the role of government policies in supporting Versuni in manufacturing, logistics, and overall growth and expressed that there are two key factors. First, the government’s emphasis on improving infrastructure has created better conditions for manufacturing, making operations more efficient. Second, the government has provided clear direction by not only promoting but also incentivizing local production, which he described as encouraging for companies aiming to expand manufacturing in India.
