Panasonic 1.5 Ton 5-Star Inverter AC Review: The summer season is raging on, and the heat has already hit the roof and temperatures are soaring sky-high, and everyone is out there looking out for the perfect cooling solution, and for most people it is their rooms that they find a comfortable spot in where they can rest and restore, and for that you need a proper AC that can satisfy all your needs. Now for a regular-sized room, a 1.5-tonne AC can suffice easily; even 1-tonne ACs can do the bit, but a 1.5-tonne AC can take a lot of load off and easily provide you with a proper cooling solution.
But which AC is the best in the market right now? When it comes to this specific tier, there is a lot of confusion, as many products are available. But here we are going to discuss one specific unit that brings it all together: efficiency, power and cooling. What we are talking about is the latest Panasonic 1.5-tonne, 5-star inverter AC, and we have tested its real-life performance in the extreme heat we are in right now. So let's jump right in.
We will look through all the benchmarks here, like cooling efficiency in peak Delhi heat, performance in top-floor rooms, electricity consumption, AI-powered adaptive thermal comfort, convertible modes, smart features, noise levels, and overall value for money.
Design And Build Quality
As far as the design of this AC is concerned, it has been kept simple, and not much change is there if you look at the full body, but there are upgrades to its air vents, which are quite big in size, and another interesting thing is that its flap also opens up very fast. Another thing to note here is that you might still hear a few creaking sounds, as the plastic is not that premium, but it's not something that might bother you much. Speaking of the remote, not much has changed here either, and Panasonic seems to be sticking to its previous design ideology; the only change here is a new Smart button on the remote because it's an AC with smart features installed in it.
Connectivity Features and App Support
The AC connects with the MirAIe app and has 2.4 GHz support, and the user can find here a lot of options to customise their AC or use it according to their needs. For us it was a lot easier to use the app, and it came in more handy than the provided remote. Now there are a lot of features apart from the basics like temperature setting, fan speed, swing, and ON/OFF; there are some special features as well.
The Proximity Control setting is there, which can be quite useful, as it turns on the AC as soon as you come into its proximity radius, and it will also turn off when you leave or go out of its proximity. In the app you also get the option to take a look at your power consumption as well as your filter health.
Another very useful feature is its custom profile; let us explain to you how it works. Consider you want your AC to cool more when you come back from outside, at 22-23 degrees, and then gradually decrease the cooling (25-26 degrees) as the night comes as temperatures stabilise; you can actually set different temperatures for different points of time in the day as you use the AC and save this custom profile for daily usage as well. This has two very important benefits: firstly, it is energy-saving, and secondly, it does not disrupt your sleep either, as temperature is maintained properly throughout.
There is also an option to self-diagnose the AC in the app if you feel there is some issue with it, and the app will also notify you of the same. We have used all these smart features, and there was no problem at all in their implementation, and they work smoothly.
Self-Cleaning Outdoor And Indoor Filtration
There is also an OC (Outdoor Cleaning) mode which cleanses the outdoor unit of your AC after 24 hours of any dust or other particles that might get accumulated, and it's a new feature that we are getting to see in the Panasonic AC, and it's a great integration considering the air quality in Delhi outside right now.
The AC is also capable of cleaning indoor air, as it comes with nano-active air purification, so yes, it can help you a little bit in cleaning your indoor air with built-in air purification.
Cooling, The Stuff That Matters
Now let's take a look at the most important component that you buy an AC for: cooling! So how does it perform in that? Let's break it down.
Firstly, one should at least have a rough idea of their room size, as that is the most important part because your cooling will depend on it. Now this is a 1.5-tonne AC, so if your room is somewhere between 110 and 160 sq. metres, then this AC is ideal for that.
In the room that we tested it in, our home-based environment, the AC was doing a very good job; you also get a four-way swing. But the key takeaway and selling point here is the AC's throw; it's magnificent, and you won't even need a fan, in our opinion, if you are sleeping directly near the AC or its throw is on you. As far as temperature is concerned, we didn't even feel the need to go below 24 degrees Celsius.
Another great aspect is its noise, which is very low, because many ACs tend to make a lot of noise while cooling at that capacity, but this one does not. Now if you want to know how far it can go as far as its cooling is concerned, then this AC can cool at 100% efficiency till 48 degrees Celsius. We tested it on the 2nd floor, which was also the top floor here, and heat penetrates quite harshly here, and still the AC maintained its cooling and efficiency. So this AC nails it when it comes to cooling.
Internals
The AC has 100% copper wires on the inside for gas circulation. They also employed their own Blue Shield Technology which is effective against corrosion as well in the long term, but how it really resists real-life rundown we will only know after long-term usage. We also didn't use a stabiliser, as there is no need for it with this AC, so it saves you money here as well.
AC and AI Features
Now AI is the talk of the industry right now, and here also you will find AI features. In its app you can find AI-adaptive thermal cooling. In this you can adjust at what capacity your AC works; for example, this AC is 1.5 tonnes, and you can actually adjust it to work at 0.5 tonnes or 0.7 tonnes or even 1 ton, and it will cool according to that. This is useful in saving energy.
AI also helps in assessing the temperature outside and inside with sensors installed on the unit and cools according to that. Although we set up the temperature on our own, the feature still exists.
Warranty And Installation
Here you get a 5-year PCB and 10-year compressor warranty, and you can also get an extended comprehensive warranty, but you have to be careful, as it might vary from place to place, online/offline, etc. Installation again is something you will have to spend on here, as extended wires are something that always come out as an extra cost, and the farther your outdoor unit is, the more you will have to spend, so be ready for that as well.

Pricing
This will cost you Rs 47,990, and it is the 5-star energy efficiency premium Wi-Fi inverter AC.
Verdict
This is a solid choice when it comes to 1.5-tonne ACs and does a great job at cooling and also has good AI features. Yes, there are a few things that could have been better or new, like the remote and some plastic build quality in some parts, but overall it does not fail. So we would like to rate it a 9/10.
