OnePlus is gearing up for a packed launch in China, and it’s not just about a new phone this time. The company has confirmed that the OnePlus Ace 6 Ultra will debut early next week, alongside a new gaming-focused accessory that hints at a bigger push into mobile gaming.

Launch Date And What’s Coming

In a post on Weibo, OnePlus confirmed that the OnePlus Ace 6 Ultra will launch in China on April 28 at 7pm local time (4:30pm IST). The phone won’t arrive alone. It will be unveiled alongside the new OnePlus Strix gaming controller, an accessory designed to turn the smartphone into something closer to a handheld gaming device.

The Ace 6 Ultra is already up for pre-order via the Oppo China online store, although the listing keeps things vague and doesn’t reveal any key specifications yet.

A Controller That Tries To Turn Your Phone Into A Handheld

The OnePlus Strix controller is clearly built with gaming in mind. It attaches to the back of the phone and is being positioned as a way to bring a more console-like experience to mobile.

From what the company has shown, the controller will come in a white finish with orange accents. It includes dual rear triggers for index fingers, along with two additional buttons placed behind the grip where your middle fingers naturally rest.

Interestingly, OnePlus isn’t adding joysticks to the setup. Core controls like movement and camera panning will still rely on the phone’s touchscreen.

Modular Add Ons And Thermal Focus

The real attraction of the Strix controller is how modular it is. OnePlus intends to sell extra attachments for the controller that will allow users to hook up a cooling fan when playing for longer periods.

Since the attachments will be attached through a USB-C port, it shows that OnePlus isn’t just concerned about the basics but also about long-term performance.

Built for Low-Latency Gameplay

In terms of performance, the controller has been optimized to have a 1,000Hz polling rate and a 1.8ms trigger response rate.

Ace 6 Ultra Design Already Revealed

While specs are still under wraps, OnePlus has already given a glimpse of the Ace 6 Ultra’s design. The phone is expected to feature a square-shaped rear camera module housing dual cameras and an LED flash.

It will be available in at least a black colour option, with what the company describes as a “3D stereoscopic engraving” on the back, adding a bit of texture to the design.

Bigger Picture

With the Ace 6 Ultra and the Strix controller launching together, OnePlus seems to be experimenting with how far a smartphone can go as a gaming device. Instead of just improving internals, the company is now building an ecosystem around it.

Whether this setup actually delivers a handheld-like experience is something we’ll find out once the device officially launches later this month.
