Grand Theft Auto 6 is still a couple of months away, but Rockstar Games has already managed to dominate the gaming conversation. There is just one big question the studio has not answered yet: what happens to Grand Theft Auto Online?
Rockstar has not announced when the multiplayer portion of GTA 6 will be released, or even confirmed exactly what form it will take. A comment from Twitch CEO Dan Clancy, however, has now offered a possible clue. According to Clancy, Rockstar is planning to bring GTA 6's multiplayer experience sometime in 2027.
Clancy discussed Rockstar's plans in an interview with Bloomberg while talking about the huge amount of attention expected around GTA 6. The game is scheduled to arrive on November 19, 2026, and there is surprisingly little major competition around that date. Many big releases have been positioned in September and October instead, while the next major wave of games is not expected until January 2027.
That could give GTA 6 plenty of room to dominate the market after launch. Clancy believes the attention will not stop there, saying the bigger boost could come next year when Rockstar introduces the multiplayer component.
“We spent a lot of time talking with Rockstar about their plans, and also helping them think about how they can engage our creators,” Clancy told Bloomberg. “You are going to see this big bump with GTA 6, but then an even bigger one next year when they launch multiplayer.”
There is still a catch. Clancy did not give a release date or a specific timeframe for the multiplayer launch, and Rockstar itself has not confirmed the claim. So, for now, 2027 is the only indication we have of when the online experience could arrive.
Rockstar has also been unusually quiet about GTA 6's multiplayer plans. So far, the studio's marketing has focused almost entirely on the single-player game. The two trailers, the extended look released on Netflix and the official GTA 6 website have all concentrated on the story, characters and world of the game.
That lack of information could be a sign that Rockstar does not intend to launch the online mode alongside GTA 6 in November. If the multiplayer release really is being saved for 2027, the studio would have plenty of time to reveal more details after the main game is out.

There is some precedent for Rockstar separating the two releases. Grand Theft Auto Online launched around two weeks after Grand Theft Auto 5 arrived in September 2013. The online mode went on to become a major part of the franchise and continues to bring players and revenue to Rockstar's parent company, Take-Two Interactive.
For now, GTA 6's November launch remains the only date Rockstar has officially confirmed. The game will release on PS5 and Xbox Series S/X on November 19, 2026, while details about its next big online experience remain under wraps.
