Netflix may be bringing back free trials, something the streaming platform discontinued nearly six years ago. Over the past few days, several users across different countries have reported seeing free trial offers while creating a new account, and Netflix has now confirmed that the promotion is available for eligible users in select markets.

What's interesting is that the offer has also started appearing for some users in India, although the company hasn't officially announced a wider rollout in the country yet.

Free Trial Spotted for Some New Users

According to Netflix's Help Centre, free trials are currently limited to eligible new members. Whether you see the offer depends on your account, device and location, and if you don't get the option during sign-up, your account simply isn't part of the current rollout.

The details of the offer were verified by Gadgets360 in India and according to it while creating a new Netflix account with a fresh email address, the publication spotted a "Try 30 days for ₹0" banner during the registration process.

Interestingly, not everyone is seeing the same promotion. Some users are being offered 30 days of free access, while others are seeing a 15-day trial instead. This suggests Netflix is testing different offers with different groups of users rather than rolling out a single global promotion.

The streaming giant ended its free trial programme around 2020. By bringing it back for a limited number of users, Netflix appears to be testing whether a free preview of its catalogue can encourage more people to subscribe.

How to Check if You're Eligible

If you're curious whether the offer is available on your account, you'll need to create a new Netflix account using an email address that hasn't been registered with the service before.

During the sign-up process, check whether a banner offering 30 days free or a 15-day free trial appears. If it does, simply choose your preferred subscription plan, add a valid payment method and complete the registration. The trial begins immediately after the account is created.

Keep in mind that Netflix requires a payment method even for the free trial. AutoPay is enabled by default, so if you don't cancel your subscription before the trial period ends, your chosen plan will automatically renew and the subscription fee will be charged.

For now, Netflix hasn't confirmed whether the free trial will be expanded to all users or become a permanent feature again. If you don't see the offer today, you may have to wait until the company widens the rollout or includes your account in the ongoing test.
