Meta is giving its Ray-Ban Display Glasses another feature-packed update. The latest software release adds support for Threads, expands Instagram integration and brings a handful of AI improvements aimed at making the smart glasses more useful in day to day use.

The update is being rolled out gradually in select global markets, so not everyone will see it straight away. If it hasn't appeared on your glasses yet, Meta says you'll need to wait until it reaches your device.

One of the headline additions is Threads support. After installing the update, users can browse their Threads feed, view photos and videos, interact with posts and share content through messages, all from the smart glasses. Meta has also added voice controls, allowing users to navigate parts of the experience without taking out their phone.

The company is also making it easier to post content to Instagram. Photos captured using the glasses can now be shared directly to Instants, Instagram's recently introduced feed inside Direct Messages. Instead of opening the app manually, users can simply say "Hey Meta, share an Instant" or "Hey Meta, post an Instant" to upload an image.

Reels support has also been expanded. Users can now share Reels with friends, read comments and even search for videos using voice commands. For example, saying "Hey Meta, show me reels of the coolest features on Meta Ray-Ban Display" will search Instagram for relevant videos.

Beyond social media, Meta is also giving its AI assistant a boost. The company says the glasses are now getting Muse Spark, a new AI model that is designed to deliver better responses while doing a better job of understanding what users are looking at. That should help the assistant provide suggestions that are more relevant to what's happening around you.

There's another update for users who prefer interacting with Meta AI without speaking. The latest software version improves Neural Handwriting, letting eligible users write their queries instead of saying them out loud. To use it, users can double tap their thumb, open the Write option from AI Home and enter handwriting mode to type a prompt.

That feature isn't rolling out to everyone just yet. Meta says the upgraded Neural Handwriting experience is currently limited to users enrolled in the Early Access Programme in the US and Canada.

The Ray-Ban Display Glasses have continued to pick up new features since they were unveiled last year, and this latest update is another example of Meta using software updates to gradually expand what its AR smart glasses can do instead of relying only on new hardware.
