Lava has expanded its Shark series in India with the launch of the new Lava Shark 2 5G, a budget smartphone that leans heavily on battery life and clean software. While the earlier Shark model focused on the 4G segment, the new version steps into the affordable 5G space with a bigger battery, a faster display and a newer chipset under the hood.
The phone comes with a 6.75-inch HD+ LCD display that supports a 120Hz refresh rate, which should make everyday scrolling and animations feel smoother than what is usually expected in this price range. Lava has also kept the software experience fairly clean, as the handset runs stock Android 16 without pre-installed ads or heavy bloatware. The company is also promising one Android upgrade and two years of security updates.
Powering the device is the Unisoc T8200 chipset built on a 6nm process. The phone ships with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage, along with support for virtual RAM expansion. Lava claims the device crossed the 5,00,000 mark on AnTuTu, which hints at a noticeable jump in performance compared to entry-level 5G phones in the segment.
On the camera side, the Shark 2 5G keeps things simple. It gets a 13-megapixel AI rear camera and a 5-megapixel front camera for selfies and video calls. The company has also added an IP64 rating, which should offer some protection against dust and splashes during daily use.
One of the bigger highlights here is the 6,000mAh battery. Lava says the phone can deliver over 13 hours of YouTube playback and more than 12 hours of screen-on time on a single charge. The device supports 18W wired charging through a USB Type-C port.
The Lava Shark 2 5G has been priced at Rs. 11,999 for the single 4GB + 64GB variant. It will go on sale in India starting June 10 through offline retail stores. Buyers will be able to pick between Arya Blue and Sonar Gold colour options, while Lava is also continuing its free home service support with the device.
