Instagram Plus Testing: It seems like Instagram might be quietly testing a new paid subscription plan dubbed the Instagram Plus, which is expected to come with premium features putting more focus on Stories. Details surfacing early on suggest that I might sport tools that look after story audiences, track rewatch insights and even extend the duration of stories that go beyond 24 hours. Users might also get an option that boosts their visibility with the help of new interactions. The feature is currently being tested but points towards a strong push towards monetisation.

Instagram To Get Paid Subscription?

The development was highlighted by social media consultant Matt Navarra on Threads, where he shared that the feature is being tested in the Philippines. The screenshot suggests a monthly price of PHP 65, roughly around Rs 100, along with a one-month free trial before billing kicks in automatically.

What’s interesting is that the focus here isn’t on the entire app but specifically on Stories. Instagram is also working on providing users with the option to customise the way they share and view their content. One feature that might be included is the option to create different groups of people to share with, moving away from the current option of using the “Close Friends” feature.

Another change is the move towards greater insights. Rather than knowing the people who viewed the story, the user might be able to view the number of times the story was rewatched. Along with this, the option to search through the people who viewed the Story and the option to view the Story before posting it might also be included.

Some changes might be related to the privacy and control options. For instance, the option to view the story without showing up in the list of people who viewed it might be included. Along with this, the option to “spotlight” one Story per week to gain greater visibility might also be included.

Other additions include extending Stories beyond the usual 24-hour limit and introducing a ‘Superlike’ feature, which appears to be a stronger form of reaction. Together, these changes suggest Instagram is trying to make Stories more customisable and interactive, especially for those who use the feature regularly.

At this point, Instagram Plus is still being tested in a limited capacity, and there’s no official word on a wider rollout. But it does give a clear idea of where things might be headed: a more feature-rich experience, but which is possibly paid.
