Google announced an update to its Search Reporting Tools that makes it simpler and clearer for individuals to request the removal of non-consensual explicit images from search results. According to the company, their updated system streamlines reporting processes while offering clearer guidance and improving transparency around removal requests. What’s New in Google’s Reporting System?

Google announced in a blog post that their revamped reporting experience is designed specifically to support victims of non-consensual, explicit imagery such as deepfake content.

Key improvements include:

- Clearer reporting categories for non-consensual explicit images and deepfakes

- A simplified form to reduce confusion during submission

- Enhanced tracking tools to monitor request status

- Greater transparency about whether a case is under review or resolved

Google also announced that users will be directed towards resources offering emotional and legal assistance.

How to Request Removal of Explicit Images

Users can request removal of non-consensual explicit content from Google Search by following these steps:

1. Open Google Search and navigate to the image in question

2. Click the three-dot menu next to the result

3. Select the option related to reporting a legal or policy issue

4. Choose the category that best describes the issue, such as non-consensual explicit content

5. Fill out the removal request form with URLs and supporting details

6. Submit the request and track its progress via Google’s reporting dashboard

Google recently clarified that removing results from Search does not remove them completely from a website; to permanently delete content from the web users may need to contact its hosting site directly.

Expanded ‘Results About You’ Tool

Google is also making updates to their 'Results about you' feature, enabling users to request removal of search results containing sensitive personal information such as:

- Social Security numbers

- The expanded functionality is expected to roll out in the coming days.
