Gemini Spark from Google with the Google Gemini app has recently become available for macOs in beta, and this will mean that Mac users will be able to have an AI assistant that can perform multi-repetitive tasks and not another ordinary AI assistant. The feature was first showcased at the recently held Google I/O 2026 in May and is made to automate workflows that are repetitive in nature, tasks that would otherwise require users to switch between multiple applications.

With Gemini Spark, users can ask the AI assistant to work with files stored on their Mac. For instance, it can organise PDF documents from the Downloads folder into separate folders, generate a budget spreadsheet using locally stored invoice files, or even keep that spreadsheet updated on a recurring schedule through Google Workspace.

Google says the AI only accesses files that users explicitly grant permission to use, ensuring it cannot browse personal data without approval.

Remote Tasks And More App Integrations Are On The Way

Google is also preparing to introduce remote task execution for Mac users. Once available, the feature will let users assign tasks to Gemini Spark from their phone even when they are away from their computer.

For instance, a user can request that the AI assistant locate a sales report stored on their Mac computer, pull out the revenue number, and send it via email. The expansion of Gemini Spark takes place alongside the release of the macOS beta.

Integration with Google Tasks and Google Keep allows users to turn notes into actionable to-do lists, while support for third-party services such as Canva, Dropbox, Instacart, OpenTable and Zillow Rentals is also being added. According to Google, these integrations will arrive on Gemini Spark for the web and mobile over the next week, with the macOS app set to receive them in the coming weeks.

Custom Integrations and Proactive Monitoring

Google is also introducing support for custom Model Context Protocol (MCP) integrations, allowing users to connect additional apps directly to Gemini Spark and create more personalised workflows.

Another new capability is proactive monitoring. With this feature, Gemini Spark can keep an eye on news websites, blogs, financial markets, sports updates, weather, shopping platforms, social media and even email. Users can set specific conditions, and the AI assistant will automatically notify them when those conditions are met.

Gemini Spark for macOS is currently available in beta for Google AI Ultra subscribers aged 18 and above in the US.
