As Google gears up for its biggest developer event of the year, the company is kicking things off a little early with a special Android-focused showcase. Ahead of Google I/O 2026 on May 19, Google will host “The Android Show: I/O Edition” today, giving users and developers an early look at what’s coming next for Android, AI, wearables, and possibly even mixed reality devices.

The livestream event will begin at 10:00am PT, which translates to 10:30pm IST for viewers in India. Unlike Google I/O’s larger in-person format, this one is completely virtual and will be streamed online through YouTube and Google’s official event platforms.

While Google has not officially revealed the full agenda yet, expectations are already high around Android 17 and the company’s growing AI ambitions. Reports and early leaks suggest the next Android update could focus heavily on productivity and usability, with features such as improved multitasking, better screen recording tools, app bubbles, gesture navigation upgrades, and stronger privacy options including app locks.

AI is also expected to take center stage once again. Google could use the Android Show to tease new Gemini features designed specifically for Android devices, giving users a clearer idea of how the company plans to integrate AI deeper into the mobile experience over the coming months.

Beyond smartphones, the event may also offer a closer look at Wear OS updates and Google’s Android XR platform, which is being positioned as the company’s next big step into extended reality experiences. There is speculation around mixed reality hardware and smart glasses as well, although Google has remained quiet about any specific products so far.

Another topic that could surface during the event is “Aluminium OS,” a name that has recently appeared in reports connected to Google’s broader ecosystem plans. Details remain limited for now, but the showcase could finally explain where it fits into the company’s future software strategy.

The Android Show essentially serves as a preview before the main Google I/O 2026 keynote next week, where Google is expected to make its biggest announcements around Android, Gemini AI, and other software platforms. With AI rapidly becoming the center of nearly every major tech announcement, this year’s I/O could end up being one of Google’s most important conferences in recent years.
