Google I/O 2026 is kicking off today, May 19, and like every year, this is where Google lays out what’s next for Android, AI, Chrome, and pretty much the rest of its software ecosystem. The company has already dropped a few hints in the past few weeks through The Android Show, but the main keynote is expected to bring the bigger announcements.

This year, AI will almost certainly take centre stage. Google is expected to talk more about its Gemini models, AI agents, media generation tools, and new features aimed at developers. Android 17 is also likely to get plenty of attention, especially since the update is already in beta testing ahead of its wider release later this year.

How To Watch Google I/O 2026 Live

Google IO 2026 starts at 10 am Pacific Time, which translates to 10:30 pm Indian Standard Time. It will take place at the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, California, where Google's Chief Executive Officer, Sundar Pichai will be the main speaker.

The livestream will be available on Google’s official YouTube channel for developers, so users can watch it on phones, laptops, smart TVs, or directly through the YouTube app.

After the main keynote ends, Google will also host a separate developer keynote focused on more technical announcements and tools. That session is scheduled for 1:30pm PT, or 2am IST.

What To Expect From Google I/O 2026

AI is expected to dominate almost every part of the event this year. These are some of the areas Google has alluded to regarding the potential updates in multimodal AI, robotics, intelligent agents, and AI workflows. Additionally, Google may reveal new features that help programmers create and execute AI programs easily.

Android 17 is another big topic expected at the conference. While Google has already released beta versions of the update, I/O is usually where the company explains the new features in detail. Improvements related to performance, media handling, larger screens, and desktop-style experiences are all expected to be discussed.

Chrome could also receive a bunch of AI-focused upgrades. Google is reportedly working on smarter browsing features, better performance, and improvements to web-based tools and APIs.

Apart from the headline announcements, Google will host several sessions across AI, Android, and developer tools throughout the event, and replays will be available after the livestream ends.
