Crimson Desert has picked up serious momentum since launch, crossing 4 million copies sold worldwide. Developer Pearl Abyss confirmed the milestone on Wednesday, just days after revealing the game had already hit 3 million sales. The title released on March 19 across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series S/X, and has continued to perform strongly despite a mixed early response.

Sales Climb As Player Base Grows

The developers shared the update in a post, thanking players for their support and calling out the community that has stuck with the game since launch. Crossing 4 million this quickly shows how much traction the game has gained in a short span.

On PC, the numbers look just as impressive. According to SteamDB, the game recently hit a peak concurrent player count of over 276,000, nearly two weeks after release. That puts it among the more actively played titles on Steam right now.

Updates Are Turning Things Around

Though it was met with somewhat lukewarm initial reception, Pearl Abyss has been working hard to release regular updates to fix issues based on players’ feedback. For instance, some of the issues raised at launch regarding combat, stability, etc., have been fixed in the first major update.

Version 1.00.03 of the update brought some significant changes to the game, along with better optimisation. It also added features players had been asking for, including an in-game stash and improved keyboard and mouse controls.

A follow-up update, version 1.01.00, continued the momentum. The update added five summonable mounts, reduced the time spent waiting to load fast travel and revival, and further tuned the control system.

Player Response Is Improving

These changes seem to be making a difference. User reviews on Steam have now shifted to “Mostly Positive,” a step up from the early days after launch. On Metacritic, the game’s user score has climbed to 8.8 based on more than 10,000 reviews.

What The Game Is About

Set in the fictional continent of Pywel, Crimson Desert follows Kliff, a Greymane warrior trying to reunite with his scattered allies and rebuild his faction. The game blends open-world exploration with action-driven combat, which appears to be resonating more with players as updates roll out.
