CMF, the design-centred sub-brand of Nothing, has recently accomplished its first milestone in India. Following its registration as a standalone operation, the company has in fact moved beyond the subsidiary status of Nothing and is now operating as a separate entity based in India.
The announcement is timed strategically just before the release of the company’s two new products in India – the CMF Headphones Pro and CMF Watch 3 Pro. This signifies India’s growing prominence in CMF’s international expansion.
CMF Registered as CMF India Private Limited
The news was shared by Nothing’s co-founder and Indian president, Akis Evangelidis, in a post on platform X. He indicated CMF was registered as a new, independent legal entity on the 23rd of December, 2025.

Now that CMF is a standalone entity, Evangelidis remarked, “With CMF now a separate, legally incorporated entity in India, we're taking another important step in building from India to the world."
According to the formal documents, the company’s operational name will now be CMF India Private Limited. This includes the changes that the company announced in September, where CMF stated that it would fully transfer its smartphone manufacturing function to India.

Manufacturing, Operations, R&D Now in India
CMF has established its R&D, operations, and manufacturing for smartphones and wearables in India. This is in line with Nothing’s strategy to utilise India as a global innovation and manufacturing centre, rather than solely a market for sales.
Earlier this year, Nothing, led by Carl Pei, announced a joint venture with Optiemus Infracom to manufacture CMF-branded electronics domestically. For this partnership, the two have pledged to invest over $100 million (around Rs. 887 crore) in India in the next three years and to generate more than 1,800 jobs.

Nothing has also mentioned that its total investment in India is over $200 million (about Rs. 1,774 crore) to date.
Backed By Make in India and PLI Support
CMF is one of the recipients of the Indian government’s Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme, designed to bolster the Make in India programme that seeks to bolster the domestic manufacture of electronics. In the last 11 years, India’s electronics manufacturing has expanded six times, with exports growing nearly 11 times, according to Union IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.
Now that CMF is legally established in India, the company seems ready to expand into shaping affordable, design-led, locally manufactured tech products for global markets.
