Meta has unveiled a new collection of features for its Meta Ray-Ban Display smart glasses at CES 2026 that further amplify hands-free interaction and lightweight productivity. In addition to the updates, the company also verified that it’s taking a break from pushing new display-enabled glasses beyond US borders, attributing the pause to supply and demand shortages rather than any inherent technological issues.
Teleprompter Comes to Meta Ray-Ban Display
One of the most notable additions is a built-in teleprompter feature. Rolling out in phases starting this week, the tool displays text-based cards directly inside the glasses’ monocular display. The idea is simple but powerful: users can read notes or scripts while maintaining natural eye contact, without glancing at a phone or external screen.
Navigation through the text is handled via the Meta Neural Band. Users can scroll at their own pace using subtle gestures, making the feature particularly useful for presentations, public speaking, and hands-free content creation. Meta says notes can be copied from apps such as Google Docs, note-taking tools, or Meta AI on a paired smartphone.

EMG-Based Handwriting Input
Meta is also introducing an early access handwriting input feature that leans heavily into its neural interface research. Using electromyography (EMG) signals captured by the Meta Neural Band, users can write messages by tracing letters with their finger on any surface. The system interprets muscle signals rather than relying on cameras or touchscreens.

The feature is available for WhatsApp and Messenger at the time of launch. Users can either compose full messages or choose from canned responses. At the moment, it works only for people who are part of Early Access in the US and for English-language results.
Expanded Pedestrian Navigation
Navigation features are also receiving a boost. Meta has rolled out its pedestrian navigation feature to 32 more cities, including Denver, Las Vegas, Portland and Salt Lake City. Instructions for walking are overlaid on the glasses as people move, providing turn-by-turn directions without having to pull out a phone.

Why Meta Paused the Global Rollout
In addition to these updates, Meta said it has delayed its planned international rollout of the Meta Ray-Ban Display. The smart glasses launched in the US last fall, and Google planned to bring them to countries including the UK, France, Italy and Canada early this year.
Meta said the delay is due to high demand and limited inventory. The product’s waitlist is said to be extending into 2026, which has led the company to prioritise US orders first. Meta emphasized that the pause was not for reasons of product quality or regulatory issues and said it will continue to evaluate the potential future availability in international markets at a later date, without committing to a new timeline.
Taken together, the announcements put Meta’s smart glasses as a platform for low-key and always-available computing closer to consumers and developers while also revealing the supply realities that will continue to shape how quickly a future of thinner, more easily distributable looks at this vision can scale around the world.
