In this regard, OpenAI has introduced a major development to ChatGPT by changing the default model to GPT 5.5 Instant. This refers to the model that is loaded automatically when a user uses the application or website, whether the account is for free or not.
Until then, the model used to provide the service was GPT 5.3 Instant. Now, OpenAI has decided to move to a more sophisticated version of the same.

What GPT 5.5 Instant Brings
GPT 5.5 Instant is part of the broader GPT 5.5 family introduced last month. It is designed to be the “daily driver” model, meaning it focuses on speed and responsiveness while still improving overall intelligence.
One of the biggest upgrades is in accuracy. OpenAI says the model produces 52.5 percent fewer hallucinated claims compared to the previous version. It is also better at handling image analysis and answering questions related to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
The goal here is simple. Make responses more reliable without slowing things down.
Cleaner Conversations
One other thing that's noticeably different about the way that the model writes is that it isn't as convoluted or forced as the conversationally oriented style of previous versions.
Responses are now expected to be more to the point while still keeping enough detail. OpenAI also says the model reduces unnecessary formatting, cuts down on extra follow-up questions, and avoids clutter that can make replies feel heavy.
The idea is to keep the tone warm but useful, without overdoing it.
Improved Personalisation
Personalisation is another area getting attention. GPT 5.5 Instant can better use context from past conversations, uploaded files, and even Gmail, if the user has connected their account.

It also decides when personalisation actually adds value. In the case of recommendations, for instance, it might take references from previous conversations. However, in simple questions, it does not excessively rely on such contextual information.
Generally speaking, this release is more concerned with improvements to user experience than any exciting additions to the app. This means that the primary emphasis will be on improving clarity and precision in ChatGPT’s responses.
