For those searching for a reasonably priced broadband service, BSNL has rolled out a scheme that cannot be easily overlooked. The state-run telecom company has come up with a scheme called Rural Entry Plan at a price of Rs. 1,449 for six months, which works out to approximately Rs. 241 (excluding taxes).

The plan is aimed at users in rural parts of the country, where BSNL already has a strong broadband presence. Customers who don't want to pay for six months upfront can also choose the monthly version of the same plan, which is priced at Rs. 259.

For the price, BSNL is offering 25 Mbps internet speeds along with 700GB of high-speed data under its Fair Usage Policy (FUP). Once that limit is exhausted, the connection doesn't stop working. Instead, the speed is reduced to 2 Mbps for the rest of the validity period.

The plan also includes unlimited landline calling, although customers will need to arrange a compatible landline handset separately if they want to use the service.

There's a little extra bundled in as well. Subscribers get access to Prasar Bharati's WAVES Premium OTT platform at no additional cost.

This isn't a plan aimed at heavy users or those looking for gigabit speeds. This time, however, it is evident that BSNL is clearly catering to families who want to have an affordable broadband connection that can be relied on for daily usage without having to pay much every month. At about Rs. 241 per month, effectively, the Rural Entry Plan can attract new broadband subscribers.
