Apple has rolled out the iOS 26.5.1 update for iPhone users, nearly three weeks after releasing iOS 26.5. The latest software update appears to be focused on fixing a charging-related issue that reportedly affected some users of the iPhone Air and the entire iPhone 17 series.

According to Apple’s official release notes, the update addresses a bug that could stop wired charging from working when the battery level on supported iPhone models dropped to extremely low levels. In some cases, users reportedly found their devices completely unresponsive after the battery drained out.

Apple said, “This update addresses an issue for a small number of users that may prevent wired charging on iPhone Air and iPhone 17 models when the battery is nearly drained.”

The update can be downloaded by heading to Settings > General > Software Update on eligible iPhone models. On the iPhone 17, the update size is said to be around 12.71GB.

The rollout follows multiple reports from users facing charging issues on newer iPhone models. One reported case involved an iPhone Air unit that stopped responding after its battery hit zero. Even after being connected to a USB Type-C charger immediately, the device reportedly showed no charging indicator, Apple logo, or display activity for several minutes.

A Gadgets 360 staff member also reportedly experienced a similar problem with an iPhone 17 device. In that case, the phone only started charging again after being placed on a wireless charger following a complete battery drain.

Users who encountered the issue also tried common troubleshooting methods, including force restart combinations using the volume and power buttons. Switching charging cables, adapters, and even connecting the devices to a computer reportedly failed to fix the problem.

While Apple has not directly connected iOS 26.5.1 to the larger battery-drain complaints circulating online, the changelog strongly suggests that the update is aimed at resolving the charging behaviour seen on the iPhone Air and iPhone 17 lineup.

The update also arrives just days before Apple’s annual Worldwide Developers Conference, WWDC 2027, which begins on June 8. With iOS 26 updates now slowing down, Apple is expected to shift its attention toward the next-generation iOS 27 software.
