Amazon has introduced a new Amazon Music Unlimited subscription plan in India, bringing major changes to how music streaming will work for Prime users in the country. Alongside the launch of the premium audio tier, the company has also confirmed that Amazon Prime members will soon start hearing ads while streaming music unless they upgrade to the new plan.
Until now, Prime subscribers in India could access Amazon Music without paying anything extra and still enjoy features like ad-free playback and offline downloads. That is about to change starting July 2.
Amazon Music Unlimited Pricing In India
The newly launched Amazon Music Unlimited plan is priced at Rs. 199 per month for non-Prime users. However, for existing Amazon Prime customers, the enhanced plan can be accessed for a monthly discount of Rs. 99 along with the Prime membership cost.
The new plan offers users unlimited music and podcast streams from over 100 million songs without ads. Also, additional services offered by Amazon include HD and Ultra HD streaming, Spatial Audio, and Dolby Atmos support. Offline downloads are included as well, allowing users to listen without an internet connection.
What Changes For Existing Prime Members?
The bigger update here is the change coming to the standard Amazon Music experience included with Prime membership. Starting July 2, Prime users who do not upgrade to the Unlimited plan will continue to get access to the same music and podcast library, but with “limited ads” during playback.
Some premium features are also being removed from the standard Prime experience. Users on the regular tier will no longer get HD and Ultra HD audio quality, Spatial Audio, Dolby Atmos support, or offline downloads.
Essentially, Amazon is splitting its music experience into separate tiers, similar to what streaming platforms like Spotify already offer.
Free Amazon Music Tier Also Coming Soon
Amazon has also confirmed that it plans to launch a completely free version of Amazon Music in India in the near future. This upcoming tier will be ad-supported and will provide access to the company’s full music catalogue.
The move closely mirrors Spotify’s free streaming model, where users can listen to music without paying but hear advertisements in between tracks.

Similar Strategy To Prime Video
The company’s latest music strategy feels similar to the approach it recently adopted for Prime Video. Earlier, Prime subscribers could watch movies and shows without ads, but Amazon later introduced advertisements and offered users the option to pay extra for an ad-free experience.
Now, the same shift is happening with Amazon Music, where Prime membership alone will no longer guarantee a fully premium streaming experience.
