IO Interactive’s long-awaited James Bond game, 007 First Light, is off to a massive start. Just 24 hours after launch, the studio confirmed that the action-adventure title had already sold 1.5 million copies across platforms. The game released this week on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series S/X, and early momentum suggests it could become one of the biggest game launches of the year.
Sharing the milestone on social media, IO Interactive thanked players for the response the game has received since launch. “1.5 million copies sold,” the studio posted.“Thank you for showing up to the launch of 007 First Light, for your overwhelming enthusiasm and for sharing your experience with the game.”

The numbers appear to be especially strong on current-generation consoles, while the PC version is also seeing solid engagement. According to SteamDB, the game has already crossed a peak concurrent player count of 68,477 players on Steam. Apart from Steam, the title is also available through the Epic Games Store on PC.
Beyond sales, 007 First Light has also earned strong reviews from critics.The spy thriller currently holds a Metacritic score of 87 and an OpenCritic rating of 88, making it one of the highest-rated releases of 2026 so far.The positive response seems to have deeply resonated with the developers, many of whom spent years building the project.
In a longer statement shared after launch, IO Interactive reflected on the emotional reaction inside the studio. “This week has been one of the most emotional moments in IOI's history,” the company said.
“Across all five of our studios, we've shared excitement, relief, gratitude, and many unforgettable moments together. From launch countdowns to tears of joy when players around the world finally stepped into 007 First Light, this week has meant more to us than words can fully express after years of pouring our hearts into this game.”
The studio also added, “To everyone who has played the game, shared your reactions, supported us, or simply been part of this journey, thank you.The reception this week has been deeply moving for every developer who helped bring this game to life.”
IO Interactive says it plans to share behind-the-scenes moments from launch week, including footage and stories from developers across its studios.

Originally delayed after multiple leaks surfaced online, 007 First Light finally launched on May 27. The game introduces a fresh take on James Bond’s origin story, with actor Patrick Gibson playing a younger and more reckless version of the iconic spy. In the game, Bond starts out as a Royal Navy air crewman before being recruited into MI6 and eventually earning his “00” status. A Nintendo Switch 2 version is also planned for a later release.
