National Highway 160A Updates: In a major update for the residents of Nashik, the centre has approved the upgradation of the Ghoti-Trimbak (Mokhada)-Jawhar-Manor-Palghar stretch of National Highway 160A. The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs approved the proposal on Friday at a capital cost of Rs 3,320 crore. The stretch is likely to significantly boost the regional connectivity, especially among the nearby districts of Nashik. It will also provide relief to the residents by cutting the travel time and reducing traffic congestion.
NH 160A Widening: Project Details
- The panel, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved the 154.635-km project on Friday
- The stretch will be executed under the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) mode
- The project will be built as a two-lane corridor
- It will be widened to four lanes between Manor and Palghar
- Daily traffic on several parts of the corridor is likely to exceed 10,000 Passenger Car Units (PCUs) by 2028
- The project will connect key economic zones, industrial estates, railway stations, and airports in the region
- The stretch is also set to boost connectivity in the tribal regions of Palghar district
- As per the government, it will generate nearly 20 lakh person-days of direct employment

- The project will also generate almost 25 lakh person-days of indirect employment
- The stretch will improve freight movement between northern districts and coastal regions of the state
- It will cut the travel tie significantly and will also reduce vehicle operating costs
The officials, while providing details, stated that freight vehicles usually enter Nashik via NH-848 and NH-60, leading to heavy traffic congestion in the city. They further stated that the proposed project will provide an alternative to the commuters, as they will be able to bypass Nashik.
Once completed, the project is likely to significantly reduce the traffic congestion in the key regions of Nashik, providing a major relief to the residents.
