Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti 2026: Banks, government offices and schools across Maharashtra will remain closed on Thursday, February 19, in observance of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti. Shivaji Jayanti, also known as Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj festival, is celebrated on February 19 every year to commemorate the birth anniversary of Shivaji Maharaj.
It is a revered occasion in Maharashtra, and the state celebrates it annually with a public holiday on this day.

Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was known for his visionary leadership and courage. In Maharashtra, the day is celebrated with cultural events, processions and local programmes. While banks and government offices will remain closed for the day, some essential services will continue to function freely.
Bank Holiday On February 19
According to the Reserve Bank of India's (RBI) holiday calendar for February 2026, banks will remain closed on February 19 in Maharashtra to commemorate the birth anniversary of Shivaji Maharaj. However, internet banking, UPI and other related services will continue to function as well.
Customers are advised to complete their important banking work in advance or use digital banking services during the closure.
Government Offices To Remain Closed
Additionally, all government offices, including municipal offices and other state-run departments across Maharashtra, will be closed on February 19 in observance of the holiday.
Private offices and businesses may follow different schedules, with some closing to mark the occasion and others maintaining to continue operations.
School Closure
Government-run schools and colleges will remain closed on February 19. However, private educational institutions may decide independently whether to declare a holiday. Students and parents are advised to check with their respective institutions.
THESE Services To Remain Operational
Public transport in Mumbai, including buses, local trains, and taxis, will continue to operate as usual on February 19, 2026. Additionally, metro services are expected to operate as per their regular schedule.
Essential services, such as hospitals, clinics, pharmacies and emergency services will remain operational.
