One-Pot Dal Tadka Recipes:  The feeling of that comforting homemade bowl of dal tadka after a hectic day at work is not only finger-licking good, but also takes us back to our roots and the love of our grandmothers' cooked food. However, working professionals, or students who live away from home, cooking that comforting bowl of dal tadka for yourself is not as easy as it seems. Therefore, here is a list of one-pot dal tadka recipes that will truly feel like home.

1. Classic Dal Tadka

The following are the ingredients needed to make restaurant-style, homemade Dal Tadka for 2 servings:

Ingredients:

Masoor dal  30gms
Moong dal 65 gms
Toor dal 100gms
Ghee/oil  1 tbsp
Cumin (Jeera)  1 tsp
Garlic chopped  half tbsp
Onion chopped  1 medium size
Green chilli chopped 1
Red Chilli Powder half tsp
Tomato chopped  1/4 cup
Salt  to taste

Recipe To Make One-Pot Dal Tadka At Home:

This recipe is straight from celebrity chef Kunal Kapur’s kitchen. Follow the steps mentioned below to make a finger-licking dal tadka recipe at home.

  • 1. Combine all three dals. Wash and soak them for 20 minutes.
  • 2. Drain the water and put the dal into a large saucepan along with 4 cups of water, 1/2 tsp salt, green chilli, chopped ginger, and turmeric.
  • 3. Cook the dal until it becomes soft and mushy. Keep it aside after that.
  • 4. For the tempering, take ghee in a heated pan. Put asafoetida and dry red chilli in the ghee. After that, put cumin into it and roast it until it starts sizzling. Then, pour it into the cooked dal. If your dal is too thick, add some water. Season with salt and garnish it with chopped coriander leaves.
  • 5. Squeeze a lemon and put the dal into the serving bowl.

2. Masoor Dal Tadka

The following are the ingredients needed to make delicious homemade Masoor Dal Tadka for 6 people:

Ingredients:

  • Masoor dal - 1 cup
  • Onion -3
  • Tomatoes -2
  • Green chilli -2
  • Ginger -3 inch
  • Garlic cloves - 10
  • Cumin seeds -1 tsp
  • Bay leaves -1 to 2
  • Black cardamom - 1
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Red chilli powder - 2 tsp
  • Cumin powder -1 tsp
  • Coriander powder - 2 tsp
  • Garam masala powder -1/2 tsp
  • Coriander leaves
  • Ghee -2 tbsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Cooking oil - 3 tbsp

Recipe To Make One-Pot Masoor Dal Tadka At Home:

  • 1. Clean and soak the Kali Masoor for 15 minutes.
  • 2. Then, when the pressure cooker is heated, put three to four spoons of oil into it.
  • 3. Immediately, when the oil heats up, crush and add one black cardamom, one cinnamon stick (1 to 2 inches), one bay leaf, and one spoon of cumin seeds. Fry these four spices on medium heat.
  • 4. After that, put green chillies, garlic, ginger, and onion into the pressure cooker, and then put some fresh coriander leaves.
  • 5. When all these are a little fried, then put the onions and start cooking them on medium heat for five to seven minutes.

  • 6. Finally, add two chopped tomatoes to the pressure cooker. The tomatoes will be cooked for four to five minutes until they become soft. You can also add a little salt to speed up the process.
  • 7. Once you sauté the onions and tomatoes, put in all the spices, and at last, add a half teaspoon of Garam Masala powder. Always keep the stove fire medium during the mixing process.
  • 8. After that, pour in the Masoor (red lentils).
  • 9. As soon as you add the lentils, sauté them with spices for a minute without putting water into them.
  • 10. Put in two cups of water. For one cup of lentils, two and a half cups of water should be used. Then, put in salt according to your taste, and mix well. Now we will put the lid of the pressure cooker and cook on a medium stove for five to six whistles.
  • 11. Turn off the gas and allow the pressure cooker to cool down automatically. The Masoor Dal is now ready.
