Vijay vs Kejriwal: Actor-turned-politician Vijay's Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) emerged as the single-largest party, winning 108 seats in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections 2026. Vijay's victory has been extraordinary as he defeated two Dravidian political champion parties - the DMK and AIADMK. For decades, it was considered that only Dravidian parties could rule Tamil Nadu.

A day after creating history, Vijay on Tuesday formally staked a claim to form the government in Tamil Nadu. He wrote to Governor Rajendra Arlekar seeking an appointment and requesting an opportunity to prove his majority on the floor of the House.

Meanwhile, Vijay's magical performance drew a parallel to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)'s show in the Delhi Assembly Elections 2013. Vijay's stormy entry into electoral politics reminds AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal's commencement into the polity. Now, people are comparing the actor-turned-politician to the activist-turned-leader.

Here Are Some Key Commonalities Between Vijay And Kejriwal:

Super Debut: Vijay and Kejriwal made a stunning debut in politics, leaving traditional politicians in shock. Kejriwal's AAP won 28 seats in the 70-seat Delhi Legislative Assembly election 2013, falling short of 8 seats to form a government. Later, Congress lent support, and Kejriwal became Chief Minister of Delhi. Similarly, the majority mark in the Tamil Nadu Assembly stands at 118, leaving TVK 10 seats short of a clear majority. There is speculation that, with 5 seats, Congress, the VCK, CPI, and CPI-M, with two seats each, may help Vijay to become Tamil Nadu Chief Minister.

CM's Defeat: In 2023, AAP's Kejriwal defeated Congress Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit in the New Delhi constituency. On a similar line, TVK's candidate VS Babu outsmarted Chief Minister MK Stalin defeated in the Kolathur constituency. It means that the entry of Vijay and Kejriwal caused the CM's defeat.

Become CM: Vijay and Kejriwal, after their first election, are offered chief minister posts. Kejriwal became the CM for the first time in 2013. While Vijay is set to get the top job in Tamil Nadu.

No Political Legacy: Neither Vijay nor Kejriwal had a political legacy. They built their legacy on their own. When they began their political campaigns, seasoned politicians mocked them, but with their powerful influence over youth, they scripted history.

Influence On Youth: The most highlighted commonality between the duo is their influence over the youth. While Kejriwal won the youth's confidence with his anti-corruption initiatives, Vijay influenced youngsters with his larger-than-life image in the cinema. Kejriwal's clean image attracted youth in 2013, as did Vijay's spotless personality.
