‘Where Is All The Fund Going?': Delhi CM Raps Civic Officials Over Poor-Quality Work After Building Collapse | VIDEO

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Monday reprimanded civic officials over poor-quality work and prolonged delays during a recent inspection, with a video of the confrontation going viral on social media. The inspection comes amid the Satya Niketan building collapse that claimed over 7 lives.

During the interaction, Gupta questioned officials over the utilisation of more than Rs 800 crore allocated for civic works and sought accountability for the condition of the projects. When officials requested another week to complete the work, the Chief Minister rejected the plea and directed them to fix the damaged slabs within 24 hours and submit photographic proof of the repairs.

In the viral video, the CM was heard saying, “Why will it take one week? What work are you guys doing…where is all the fund money going, straight to your pockets?”

Gupta also warned officials against negligence and stressed that no further laxity would be tolerated in matters concerning public safety.

The Delhi CM had earlier inspected the Satya Niketan building collapse site and reviewed the ongoing rescue operation. She said around 80 per cent of the debris had been cleared, while work was continuing in the basement where water had accumulated.

"Approximately 80 per cent of the debris has been cleared; only the rubble from the basement remains. There was certainly water in the basement, and the accumulation of water, combined with ongoing repair work on the old structure, caused the building to collapse. So far, 12 people have been recovered; six have died, while the other six are in stable condition. We are in touch with all their parents and are making every effort to ensure they face no difficulties. The children are receiving proper medical treatment. This matter is also under the direct personal supervision of our Health Minister, JP Nadda. Union Home Minister is closely monitoring the situation, and we are receiving guidance from the Prime Minister as well... No dangerous building will be spared; all such buildings will undergo a structural audit, and appropriate action will be taken," CM Gupta said.

According to Gupta, the collapsed structure was undergoing repair work, and the combination of repair activity and water accumulation in the basement contributed to the incident. She also said strict action would be taken against officials found responsible for negligence.
