Cockroach Janta Party: The five-day-old Cockroach Janta Party has become a raging topic in India, especially among Gen Z, with millions joining and following the group on social media. Since its launch on May 16, the Cockroach Janta Party has amassed over 15 million followers on Instagram, surpassing the ruling BJP (8.8 million) and the Indian National Congress (13.3 million).

The Cockroach Janta Party, however, suffered a roadblock in its social media journey on Thursday with its official account X getting withheld. Reacting to CJP's account suspension, its founder Abhijeet Dipke said, "This was expected since there were attempts to hack the account yesterday. But this is a self-goal by the government."

But, as they say, Cockroaches refuse to die easily! The CJP soon started another X account with the name "Cockroach Is Back", and within two hours, over 42,000 people had subscribed to it. "I have now started a new account named 'Cockroach Is Back' on X," Dipke said, adding that the team would pursue the matter legally.

It all started after Chief Justice of India, Justice Surya Kant, compared the unemployed youth of India to cockroaches. Expressing concern over the growing number of lawyers allegedly holding fake law degrees, CJI Surya Kant said, "There are already parasites of society who attack the system, and you want to join hands with them? There are youngsters like cockroaches, who don't get any employment and don't have a place in a profession."

"Some of them become media, some of them become social media, some of them become RTI activists, some of them become other activists, and they start attacking everyone, and you people file contempt petitions," the CJI added.

CJI's comments, however, did not go down well with the GenZs of India, who soon started consolidating under an umbrella called the "Cockroach Janta Party" and instead of rejecting the slur, they weaponised it into an identity of resistance.

What Is Cockroach Janta Party?

The Cockroach Janta Party was launched on May 16, 2026, by Abhijeet Dipke, a 30-year-old political communication strategist and former Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) social media worker who is currently pursuing a Master's degree at Boston University. The movement describes itself as a "political front of the youth, by the youth, for the youth" with the slogan of "Secular, Socialist, Democratic, Lazy."

The Cockroack Janta Party's headquarters are "wherever the wifi works". The official website of the movement positions itself as the voice of those "the system forgot to count," and their official voting symbol is a mobile phone. "A political party for the people the system forgot to count. Five demands. Zero sponsors. One large, stubborn swarm," the website described.

Dipke, who posted a Google Form inviting all "cockroaches" to unite, is also surprised by the overwhelming response. "Well, I have been following Indian politics for a long time. When the CJI made those remarks, I put out a satirical post on X. It started with a simple Google Form, and honestly, I never expected such a massive response," Dipke said, as quoted by Live Mint.

On millions following the Cockroach Janta Party within days, Dipke linked it to the frustration among the GenZs over unemployment and said, "I think the biggest takeaway from the response is that young people in India are frustrated since no political party has done anything for them in the last few years. I think that is precisely why all have signed up as cockroaches."

Manifesto Of Cockroach Janta Party

Besides the satirical posts on social media, the Cockroach Janta Party has also grabbed attention with its five-point manifesto. The manifesto demands a ban on post-retirement Rajya Sabha seats for chief justices, 50 per cent reservation for women in parliament without increasing the strength of the house, and a 20-year election ban for defecting MLAs and MPs, among others.

The manifesto has also touched upon the degrading status of Indian media houses, demanding scrutiny of the bank accounts of "Godi Media anchors". It also demanded the arrest of the Chief Election Commission (CEC) under UAPA, "if any legitimate vote is deleted". Check the list of demands below:

1: If the CJP comes to power, no Chief Justice shall be granted a Rajya Sabha seat as a post-retirement reward.

2: If any legit vote is deleted, whether in a CJP or opposition-ruled state, the CEC shall be arrested under UAPA, as taking away voting rights of citizens is no less than terrorism.

3: Women shall receive 50% reservation, not 33%, without increasing the strength of Parliament. Additionally, 50% of all Cabinet positions shall be reserved for women.

4: All media houses owned by Ambani and Adani shall have their licences cancelled to make way for truly independent media. Bank accounts of Godi media anchors shall be investigated.

5: Any MLA or MP who defects from one party to another shall be barred from contesting elections — and from holding any public office — for a period of 20 years.

How To Join the Cockroach Janta Party?

The website lists four requirements to join the Cockroach Janta Party. "We do not check religion, caste, or gender. We do, however, have four (4) standards," it reads. These four requirements include:

1: Unemployed -- By force, by choice, or by principle. We don't ask.

2: Lazy -- Physically only. The brain may continue to spiral.

3: Chronically online -- Minimum 11 hours a day, including bathroom breaks.

4: Can rant professionally -- As long as the content is sharp, honest, and points at something that actually matters.

The Cockroach Janta Party has created a storm on the internet by tapping into growing frustration among young Indians, but only time will tell whether this movement will remain a digital rebellion or will formally get registered to challenge the current political system in India.
