Tensions escalated during the farmers' protest in Madhya Pradesh’s Bhopal when a group of angry protesters crossed three security cordons and reached a police bus, attempting to drive it away.
On witnessing the situation, Additional Commissioner of Police (ACP) Monika Shukla stood in front of the bus. Her courageous move prompted the protesters to retreat, averting a potential tragedy. A video of the incident has gone viral on social media.

According to NDTV, Monika Shukla explained that she made this decision immediately, considering the circumstances at the scene. She said that the protesters' attempt to stop the police bus was against the law. Therefore, she decided to step in and stop the bus. She stated that as soon as she approached, the protesters abandoned the bus and retreated.
'Protesters Are Also Our Own People': Monica Shukla
Monica Shukla said she does not feel afraid in such a situation, because the protesters are also members of society. She added that the police's primary responsibility is to ensure that no one takes the law into their own hands and that the protests continue in a peaceful and disciplined manner.
This is not the first time Monika Shukla has taken the lead in challenging situations. Nearly a decade ago, a road accident in Bhopal's sensitive Qazi Camp area led to a violent mob. At that time, she arrived at the scene alone in a government vehicle and controlled the situation with firmness and prudence.
In the Madhya Pradesh Police, Monika Shukla is known as an officer who takes leadership personally and remains on the scene in difficult situations. Her actions during the Bhopal farmers' protest have once again become a topic of discussion.
Why MP Govt, Are Farmers At Loggerheads
Farmers in Madhya Pradesh are agitated over the procurement of Moong crop harvested in the summer season. On Wednesday, the protesting farmers from across the state clashed with the police in Bhopal, pushing for their demand for procurement on MSP. The controversy is related to the state government's discouragement of production due to excessive use of pesticides. For the last two years, the government has been encouraging farmers to stop sowing summer crops.
In order to promote diversification, the government has announced a 100 per cent procurement of Urad crop at MSP, along with an incentive of Rs 600 per quintal. However, the farmers are still not able to stop Moong production as it provides higher profits in less time despite adverse impacts on the environment due to pesticide excess.
Another challenge for the government with procurement demand is Moong's surplus stock. Notably, the government of India sets procurement targets under the Price Support Scheme (PSS). However, the farmers are pressuring the government to buy more than the quota. Besides, over 3,50,000 tons of Moong beans worth approximately Rs 3,000 crore from previous years are already stored in warehouses.
Due to poor quality of the crop, traders are reluctant to purchase it. The problem has escalated to become a flashpoint between the government and farmers every year.
