  1. UP employees to get 2% DA hike.
  2. Dearness Allowance increases from 58% to 60%.
  3. 1.6 million employees benefit; arrears from January.

Uttar Pradesh: State government employees and officials are preparing to receive a two per cent increase in dearness allowance (DA), along with their May salaries, in June. The Finance Department has completed the necessary documentation for the payment of dearness allowance at the new rates and is expected to present the file to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for approval shortly.

Once approved, the dearness allowance will increase from 58 to 60 per cent, providing a significant financial boost to state government employees and officials.

1.6 Million Employees To Benefit

Nearly 1.6 million employees and officers across the state are slated to benefit from the increase in dearness allowance. While the enhanced rates will reflect in monthly paychecks starting this May, the increase is retroactive to January.

This means the government will deposit four months of arrears from January to April, directly into employees' GPF accounts, while from May, it will be added to their salaries.

DA Hike In Line With Central Government's Order

This comes after the central government, on April 22, approved a two per cent increase in dearness allowance to central government employees and officers. Only after the Central Government issues an order for the increased DA does the State Government issue an order for the increased DA for its employees.

DA Hike Salary Calculation On Basic Pay

According to experts, the DA rate increase follows a formula which is based on an adjustment linked to the 12-month average of CPI-IW inflation rather than a discretionary revision.

The 2 per cent DA hike took the rate to 60 per cent of basic pay. The increase may look small compared to the earlier 2 or 4 per cent hikes, but it will add a substantial amount to the employees' salaries.

At a basic pay of Rs 30,000, the 60 per cent DA translates into Rs 18,000, which is Rs 600 higher than Rs 17,400--the amount at 58 per cent DA. This means an employee fall under the Rs 30,000 basic pay structure would get a monthly hike of Rs 600.
