- UP government orders early sugar mill operations by October 15.
- Aims to increase sugar availability and control rising prices.
- Benefits farmers with timely land preparation for wheat sowing.
Jagran Correspondent, UP: Sugar prices have been rising sharply in the market, prompting the Uttar Pradesh government to take steps to increase sugar availability and bring prices under control. In addition to cracking down on black marketing, the state government has now launched efforts to ensure that sugar mills begin operations ahead of schedule.
Cane Commissioner of Uttar Pradesh Ministhy S has directed officials to encourage mill operators to start operations by October 15. In an official notification sent to departmental officials, as well as the chairpersons and general managers of sugar mills, the commissioner instructed them to ensure that the mills begin operations 15 days earlier than last year.
Under the new arrangement, sugar mills that begin production in October will be allowed to sell the sugar produced during the month in October and November. The move is intended to boost supplies in the market and help bring down soaring sugar prices.

Officials expect prices to ease once the additional sugar produced in October reaches the market. Around 12 sugar mills across five districts purchase sugarcane from farmers in Baghpat for sugar production.
The early opening of sugar mills is also expected to benefit thousands of farmers. With mills starting operations sooner, farmers will have enough time to prepare their land and sow wheat during the proper planting period.
