UP Floods: 8 Dead As Relentless Rain Swells Rivers Across 23 Districts; Prayagraj And Chitrakoot On High Alert

As relentless rainfall triggered landslides across parts of Uttar Pradesh, at least eight people died after flash floods inundated major rivers including the Ganga, Yamuna, Mandakini, Tons, Belan, Saryu, Ghaghra, and Sharda. Among the deceased are Kallu Yadav (32), Ansh (5), Gudiya (1), Divyansh Rawat (18), and an unidentified woman. Earlier, three others lost their lives in flood-related incidents: eight-month-old Priyansh in Pratapgarh, along with Shera (32) and Suresh (55) in Amroha's Gajraula.

Districts affected by floods include: Ayodhya, Azamgarh, Ballia, Barabanki, Badaun, Chandauli, Farrukhabad, Ghazipur, Gorakhpur, Hardoi, Kasganj, Lakhimpur Kheri, Mirzapur, Moradabad, Pilibhit, Prayagraj, Raebareli, Sant Kabir Nagar, Shahjahanpur, Sitapur, Sonbhadra, Unnao and Varanasi, it said in the evening.

Floods In Several Areas

In Chitrakoot, Kallu Yadav, along with his son Ansh, and one-year-old daughter Gudiya died after being buried under the debris of their mud house. His wife and daughter were seriously injured in the accident. Nearly, 565 houses have been collapsed in the district amid the floods. Flooding in the Mandakini River has submerged 16 villages, including Ramghat.

On August 29th, the water levels in rivers has risen to 135,200 meters. For the past 48 hours, the water level has remained around 129 meters, while the danger mark is 126,500 meters. People trapped in floodwaters in the Ramghat area have been rescued. In Etawah, Divyansh Rawat, a Class 12 student, died after being struck by lightning.

In Banda, a bike-bourne person died and two others suffered injuries after a tree fell upon the three. A woman died in Sitapur when a mud wall collapsed, while in Barabanki, a wall collapse killed a father-in-law and injured a son-in-law. Five people were injured in Sambhal when a house collapsed due to lightning, while an elderly woman died after falling from the roof.

Prayagraj Inundates, Yellow Alert Issued For Ghaziabad

Meanwhile, National Disaster Response Force conducted rescue operations, distributed relief kits and shifted people to shelters. Traffic was suspended at the Bhauti Panka road after floodwater had inundated a bridge in Panka Bahadurpur Nagar. Prayagraj remained on high alert, as water levels rose in Ganga and Yamuna affecting heavily populated areas such as Rajapur, Daraganj, Salori and Baghara. According to officials, the water levels rose after water was released from dams and barrages of Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and other upstream regions.

In Lakhimpur Kheri, District Magistrate Anjani Kumar Singh inspected the Girija barrage afflux bund and areas affected by erosion along the Mohana river. Round-the-clock work was underway, while around a dozen houses in the submerged zone were being relocated.

A yellow alert has been issued for Ghaziabad till September 4, with residents advised to exercise caution during heavy rain and avoid waterlogged areas.
