Twisha Sharma Death Case: The post-mortem report of Twisha Sharma concluded that the cause of death was 'antemortem hanging by ligature,' while also documenting multiple simple injuries on different parts of her body caused by blunt force.
These findings have added a fresh dimension to the probe into the death of the 33-year-old Twisha Sharma, who died in Bhopal on May 12, barely five months after marrying Bhopal resident Samarth Singh.
What Did Twisha Sharma's Post-Mortem Report Reveal?
The autopsy conducted at the Department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology at AIIMS Bhopal revealed that Twisha was found hanging from a gymnastic ring rope on the terrace of her home at approximately 10:26 PM on May 12. She was declared dead shortly after midnight on May 12, news agency ANI reported.
According to the findings, a double reddish patterned ligature mark encircled the upper third of the neck at an angle. The skin under the mark was described as dry, hard and 'parchmentised,' while the ligature mark was incomplete at the rear of the neck.
The report also recorded several indicators of asphyxia, including facial congestion, a bluish tint on the ears and nails, petechial haemorrhages in the right eye and 'Tardieu's spots' on the lungs. Internal examination revealed congestion in the brain, lungs and the stomach linings, along with two small bruised patches in tissues beneath the ligature mark.
Apart from ligature injuries, the medical board noted several antemortem injuries on various areas of the body, including scratches on the left side of the neck, bruises on the left upper arm, left forearm, right wrist and right ring finger, along with a 2 cm x 2 cm bruise beneath the scalp in the left frontoparietal region.
The autopsy further recorded that the uterus was enlarged and contained reddish-grey friable tissue, indicating retained decidual tissue. The report mentioned a history of Medical Termination of Pregnancy (MTP) performed one week before her death.
The report further noted that the blood, viscera, nail clippings and hair samples were sealed and sent for toxicology and DNA examination at the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL).
