Tamil Nadu Polls: With just a few days remaining in the Tamil Nadu Assembly election, one issue is likely to take the centre stage of the campaigning- delimitation. Chief Minister MK Stalin, along with the other top DMK leaders, has strongly criticised the bill by alleging that the centre was trying to snatch the powers of the southern states. While the ruling party has been aggressive over the issue, the AIADMK and newly formed TVK have largely remained silent over the issue.
The two leading parties of Tamil Nadu has a history of opposing the proposals of delimitation; however, the DMK is expected to get the benefits in the upcoming polls as the AIADMK is the part of NDA. However, the reports suggest that a large section of the society, especially the youth, is not bothered by the issue, reported the Indian Express. The ruling party has planned a massive street protest across the state for the next few days to spread its viewpoint.

"I think the timing of the delimitation move is going to help DMK. Because they (Centre) are doing it in a rushed manner. It is not transparent at all. And the Election Commission is not doing anything. A major kind of legislative piece is being moved during the elections. This is all unprecedented. The impression we get is that delimitation might become an important issue," Tamil historian and academic AR Venkatachalapathy was quoted as saying by the IE.
The DMK workers on Thursday staged a massive protest in several key cities by burning the copy of the delimitation bill and hoisting black flags. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is likely to kick-off his campaign on Saturday for the polls and is likely to raise the issue in his speeches. While the voting will take place on April 23, the result is set to be announced on May 4.
