Tamil Nadu Polls: With just a few weeks remaining in the Tamil Nadu Assembly polls, the reports suggesting a possible alliance between actor-turned-politician Vijay's TVK and BJP were dismissed on Monday. The leaders of the BJP and AIADMK openly criticised Vijay over the TVK leader's controversial remarks against superstar Rajinikanth. The newly formed party's leader claimed that Rajnikanth left active politics due to the pressure from the first family of DMK. While the opposition parties highlighted the remarks, neither the DMK nor Rajnikanth has addressed the issue yet.

While reacting to the remarks of TVK general secretary Aadhav Arjuna, AIADMK chief Edappadi K Palaniswami alleged that the remarks were given to dent Rajnikanth's reputation, adding that his decision should be respected. "Rajinikanth is a respected cinematic personality admired beyond politics. Speaking in a manner that tarnishes his reputation is unacceptable. Entering politics is an individual's right, and so is choosing not to," Palaniswami said.

"He has explained his reasons, and they must be respected," he added. Apart from this, BJP leader K Annamalai also slammed Arjuna by stating that Rajnikanth is known for his mental strength and resilience. The superstar opted out of active politics back in 2020, citing health reasons and the COVID-19 pandemic.

Earlier last week, several reports suggested that the NDA approached Vijay for an alliance; however, the talks could not reach any final conclusion. The reports also suggested that Vijay was in talks with Congress for a possible third front in the state; however, the old guards of Congress insisted the top brass stick with DMK.

The voting in Tamil Nadu will be held in a single phase on April 23, and the results will be announced on May 4. While the DMK will try to continue its government, the AIADMK will try to return to power after a decade. Apart from this, the national parties BJP and Congress will also look to increase their base. However, the entry of Vijay has added spice to the politics.
