Tamil Nadu Polls: With just a few days remaining in the Tamil Nadu Assembly election, the BJP released its list of 27 candidates on Friday. While the party fielded several senior leaders, the name of Annamalai, one of the most prominent BJP leaders in the southern state, was missing. The reports suggest that while the former IPS officer wanted a ticket from Coimbatore, the AIADMK wanted him to contest some other seat. The seat sharing among the NDA partners was heavily decided by the Edappadi K Palaniswami-led AIADMK.
While Annamalai has decided to not contest the polls, he extended his support to the BJP candidates. In a post on X, the former bureaucrat asserted that the people of Tamil Nadu want a change this time. "They carry the support of every brother & sister of TN who is tired of corruption, complacency, and the DMK's betrayal. Under the visionary leadership of our Hon PM Thiru @narendramodi avl, India has moved forward with strength, scale, and purpose," Annamalai wrote on X.

"I as a Karyakarta will stand shoulder to shoulder & campaign for all our winning BJP & other NDA candidates, with the aim of the NDA winning 210 seats in the upcoming assembly elections," the BJP leader added. Earlier last month, while addressing a crowd in Coimbatore, Annamalai asserted that he wanted to focus on strengthening the party organisation.
"I have requested the party leadership not to identify any seat for me as I have decided against contesting this time. My role is to strengthen the hands of our Karyakartas," the BJP leader said.
What Next For Annamalai?
While his political growth in the state politics remains uncertain due to differences with the alliance partner AIADMK, the BJP is likely to utilise his organisational skills at the national level. However, he is expected to be given a bigger role if the party decides to go solo after the assembly polls.
