Tamil Nadu Govt Formation Update: TVK Chief Vijay on Thursday met Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Arlekar again to submit the letter of support for the government formation in the state. However, the Governor again returned Vijay and asked him to come with the support of 118 MLAs, the majority mark to form the government. The TVK chief on Wednesday staked a claim to form the government with the support of 113 MLAs through a post-poll alliance with the Congress.

According to a report by NDTV, Governor Rajendra Arlekar posed some tough questions to Vijay, asking him how he will run the administration without having a majority in the 234-member Assembly. The Governor also asked Vijay about which parties are ready to extend support to him in the Tamil Nadu government formation.

Vijay, whose TVK delivered a political blockbuster in the recently concluded Tamil Nadu Assembly Election 2026 by winning 108 seats, got the support of Congress, which won five seats in the polls. However, TVK still remains short of five seats to achieve a majority in the Assembly and hectic parleys are underway to garner support from other regional and Left parties to fill the void.

Vijay is reportedly seeking support from CPI and CPI(M), which won 4 seats, as well as smaller parties like VCK (2 Seats) and PMK (4 seats). If these parties extend support to Vijay, the TVK would have 123 seats. However, it is highly unlikely that Vijay will get the support from VCK, which is in alliance with TVK political rival DMK and the PMK, which is in alliance with Vijay's ideological rival, the BJP.

Tamil Nadu Govt Formation Updates:

- VS Raghu, Deputy Secretary of VCK State Farmers Protection Wing, said, "We expect and wish that VCK president Thol. Thirumavalavan should take a stand in support of TVK. Even before the elections, we faced several hardships from the DMK. Moreover, TVK has also adopted Ambedkar and Periyar as its ideological leaders. Almost the same politics spoken by VCK is now being echoed by TVK as well. TVK has ensured the victory of 28 candidates from Scheduled Communities in general constituencies. In such a scenario, aligning with TVK would pave the way for the future of youngsters like us."

- After the meeting with DMK, CPI State Secretary Veerapandiyan said, "Vijay has sent a letter to the Communist Party of India seeking support for the formation of a progressive government. An emergency state executive committee meeting of the party has been convened for tomorrow, where discussions will be held and a final decision on support will be made. The meeting with MK Stalin was only a friendly courtesy meeting; he is the head of our alliance in TN. While TVK may choose to remain silent, the CPI cannot ignore or move past the matter. If anything affects constitutional rights, CPI will raise its voice."

- DMK leadership on Thursday holds a key meeting with leaders of smaller parties, including Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPIM) and Communist Party of India (CPI), amid Vijay's outreach to them seeking support for government formation in Tamil Nadu. However, it is not clear what was discussed in the meeting.

- According to sources, quoted by ANI, Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Arlekar has asked Vijay to come with a majority and take the oath as the next Chief Minister of the state. - In another development, the newly elected MLAs of the AIADMK have been taken to neighbouring Puducherry amid reports of fissures in the party over support to TVK. Some media reports have claimed that many AIADMK MLAs are ready to support Vijay, but the party leadership has denied any alliance talks.

- Yesterday, reports also surfaced that the DMK and AIADMK have initiated talks to ally to keep Vijay at bay. However, the reports were quashed soon after, with the DMK chief and outgoing Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin reportedly denying any coalition as of now.

- According to a report by the Times of India, MK Stalin said that DMK will wait for Vijay to form a new government in the state and added that he will "watch without disturbing him for six months". Stalin further said that the decision has been taken as he does not want the state to face any constitutional crisis.
