Tamil Nadu Exit Poll: The exit polls have predicted that the politics of Tamil Nadu, nearly after five decades, are set for a change with the entry of actor-turned-politician Vijay-led TVK. The southern state has been the centre of Dravidian politics, largely dominated by the DMK and AIADMK. However, the pollsters have predicted that Vijay has emerged as a third option for the voters. While some of the agencies have predicted Vijay to be a kingmaker, the Axis My India has predicted a majority for the two-year-old party.
As per the data shared by Axis My India, the newly formed party is expected to get 98 to 120 of the total 234 seats, making it the single largest party. However, the majority of the other pollsters have predicted a victory for the DMK alliance, with Vijay performing well among the young voters across the state.
Tamil Nadu has a history of several actors making a big impact in politics, including MG Ramachandran, his wife Janaki Ramachandran and J Jayalalithaa. While MGR dominated the politics of the southern state in the 80s, Jayalalithaa took over the AIADMK and became the chief minister several times. However, several famous actors, including Kamal Haasan could not leave a big impact.
What Worked For Vijay?
As per Axis My India, the people of Tamil Nadu, especially the young voters, have been searching for a potential third option. The agency stated that 37 per cent of the voters wanted Vijay to become the chief minister of Tamil Nadu.
Apart from this, despite several hints, Vijay did not join any of the two major alliances ahead of the polls, giving him a moral edge. The TVK founder maintained that while DMK is his political enemy, he did not align with the ideology of the BJP. The results of the Tamil Nadu assembly election will be declared on May 4.
