Tamil Nadu Assembly Floor Test: Days after being sworn in as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Vijay and his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), face a crucial floor test in the assembly today.
Vijay must prove his majority on the floor of the Assembly through a trust vote, as he formed a government with the support of smaller parties, barely touching the majority mark.

This test comes days after the TVK emerged as the single-largest party in the 2026 Assembly elections with 108 seats, ending the decades-long dominance of the DMK and AIADMK. Following Vijay's resignation from the Tiruchirapalli East seat, the TVK currently holds 107 seats.
Vijay remained 11 seats short of the majority mark in the 234-member House. This pushed Vijay to stitch together a post-poll alliance, securing the support of five Congress MLAs along with outside backing from the CPI, CPI(M), VCK, and IUML, who contribute two seats each.
Internal Rift In AIADMK
Meanwhile, the main opposition AIADMK is facing internal strife. The party has warned its members against cross-voting and threatened legal action and disqualification ahead of the crucial assembly floor test.
Although party chief K. Palaniswami has directed members to oppose the resolution, a growing rebellion within the party is weakening its position.
According to a report by Jagran.com, Vijay is scheduled to meet VCK chief Thol Thirumavalavan and key leaders of the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML). Earlier, Vijay held meetings with several prominent leaders, including DMK president MK Stalin, MDMK founder Vaiko, and PMK leader Anbumani Ramadoss.
