The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) has released the results of the Swachh Vayu Survekshan (Clean Air Survey) 2026. Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh, secured the first position, followed by Indore in Madhya Pradesh in second place and Jabalpur in third.

Major metropolitan cities scored lower in the assessment. The national capital, Delhi, ranked 21st with 172 points, while Mumbai ranked 28th with 160.8 points. Among other cities, Chhattisgarh's capital, Raipur, ranked sixth with 189 points, and Durg-Bhilai ranked 17th with 175.3 points.

Category I: Cities With Population Above 10 Lakh

In Category I, which includes cities with a population above 10 lakh, Lucknow ranked first. Indore and Jabalpur secured the second and third positions, respectively. Bhopal and Agra tied for fourth place, while Surat finished fifth.

Category II: Cities With Population Between 3 And 10 Lakh

In Category II, which includes cities with a population of 3 to 10 lakh, Rourkela claimed the top position. Firozabad and Guntur tied for second place, followed by Amravati in third, Bhubaneswar in fourth, and Jhansi in fifth.

Category III: Cities With Population Below 3 Lakh

In Category III, which includes cities with a population below 3 lakh, Kalinga Nagar finished first. Angul secured second place, followed by Talcher in third, Eluru in fourth, and Haldia in fifth.
