In a controversial incident, Sushil Prajapati, the Ghaziabad unit chief of Hindu Yuva Vahini, was given a grand welcome by supporters after being released on bail following eight months in jail in a rape case.

A video of the moment, which was recorded and uploaded online, went viral on social media. It showed Prajapati being greeted with multiple flower garlands and carried on the shoulders of supporters during a celebratory procession. Hundreds of supporters reportedly participated in the procession organised after his release, according to a News18 report.

Prajapati was arrested after an LLB student accused him of sexual assault last year. According to the complaint, he allegedly took the woman to a flat on the pretext of introducing her to a senior advocate, where he sexually assaulted her.

Reacting to the incident, former Uttar Pradesh chief minister and Akhilesh Yadav condemned the “welcome” given to the rape accused and attacked the Bharatiya Janata Party over women’s safety.
