A marital dispute escalated to a fatal extent in Rajkot's Vimalnagar area on University Road late on Saturday night, with a husband allegedly stabbing his wife's elderly grandfather to death and injuring his grandmother in the process.
The accused was identified as Vivek Goswami, a resident of Veraval. The police have said that he had been having a dispute with his wife and was forcing her to go back to him. The man allegedly entered his wife’s maternal grandfather’s house at University Road, Vimalnagar, accompanied by a sharp weapon, late on Saturday night.

The police said that Vivek was searching for his wife, who was not at home that night,t and had been living at her mother's house in Pushkardham. Frustrated that his wife was not present in the house, the man allegedly started stabbing his wife's maternal grandfather, Praveen Shah, with a sharp weapon.
Praveen sustained severe injuries and died while receiving treatment. The grandmother of the deceased was also brutally injured in her neck by the accused. She is being treated at a hospital where her condition is stable.
The accused immediately fled the spot after the attack. Teams of the Crime Branch and local police reached the site and started the investigation.

According to the members of the deceased's family, Vivek had threatened them earlier too, and even a written complaint had been sent to the University Police Station, but no serious action was taken.
Police have registered a murder and attempt to murder case and sent the body of the deceased for post-mortem examination. The Crime Branch and local police have been tasked to track and arrest the accused, who is still on the run.
