Jagran Correspondent | Udaipur: Just three days before the re-examination of the NEET-UG 2026, the Bhilwara police have arrested a 19-year-old youth for allegedly selling fake question papers to the students. The accused, identified as Akash Chaudhary (19), operated a channel called "Paper Mafia" on Telegram. The cops recovered a mobile phone, study materials, and other documents from his possession.
How Did The Cops Caught The Accused?
Cops in the Pratap Nagar Police Station initiated the action, which was taken based on input from Delhi and information received on the Government of India's S-MAKE portal. A raid was conducted late at night at a house in Patel Nagar. Following this, the 19-year-old youth was arrested.
Chaudhary was preparing for competitive exams in Jaipur and had returned to Bhilwara just two days ago. Preliminary investigation revealed that the accused operated Telegram through a US-based VPN and proxy network. His channel had 52 subscribers. He would scan pages from NEET textbooks to create dummy question papers and sell them for four thousand rupees each, claiming they were the real papers. He would receive payments via QR codes into his bank account.
Case Registered
Police have lodged a case against the accused under the Fraud Act, the Information Technology Act, and the Public Examinations Act. Investigations into mobile phones and bank accounts are ongoing. The investigation team is trying to determine how many candidates have fallen victim to the fraud so far and who else is involved in the network.
The National Testing Agency (NTA) announced on Friday that it will conduct a mock drill across the country on June 20th, a day before the NEET-UG 2026 re-examination. The mock drill is being conducted to ensure the smooth conduct of the re-examination. The original exam was held on May 3rd but was canceled following allegations of a paper leak. The re-examination will now be held on June 21st.
