North India is set to receive much-needed relief from scorching weather as a series of incoming weather systems may finally bring rainfall.
According to the latest meteorological assessments, cited in a report by India Today, several western disturbances are expected to influence the region one after another over the coming days. The weather pattern would potentially lower temperatures and trigger dust storms and rainfall.
When can rain relief be expected?
As per the weather experts, the isolated dust storms and light rainfall could start by the evening of April 27. The change in weather is expected to intensify over the next few days into widespread dust storms and thunderstorms. The intensified weather pattern would last between April 28 and April 30 across several northern states, including Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, and parts of Rajasthan.
Meteorological department forecasts suggest that mercury is likely to start going below the 42°C mark from April 29 onward. However, the western disturbances-caused change does not mean an immediate end to summer heat, but a slight relief for a few days from the current scorching conditions.
What is a western disturbance?
A Western Disturbance is a system that originates in the Mediterranean region. It starts travelling eastward, carrying moisture from the sea in the region. The moisture-laden weather system brings showers to India, breaking a prolonged heat spell during the peak summer months.
What's next for a couple of days?
According to an India Meteorological Department (IMD) press release issued on Saturday, Northwest and Central India are expected to face an intense heatwave for the next three days. However, a relief is expected after that.
These regions include Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Rajasthan, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh, among others.
The IMD has issued an orange alert in Delhi for Sunday and a yellow alert for Monday. In its weather bulletin, the weather department said that Sunday was the 3rd consecutive day of a heat wave over Delhi. These conditions, according to IMD, are likely to continue till tomorrow.
