Punjab Industries Minister Sanjeev Arora, arrested in a fake GST billing and money laundering case, was remanded to judicial custody for 14 days by Gurugram court on Monday. He was first remanded for seven days and later for two days before being questioned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).

Arora was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on May 9 in Chandigarh after raids and questioning in the case. He was earlier placed in ED custody for multiple days before being produced before the court, which on Monday ordered judicial custody.

The Minister was produced in the court, earlier this morning, where the leader got emotional after meeting his daughter. Other members of Arora's family were also present at the court during the hearing.

The case involves a mobile phone business and money laundering involving approximately Rs 157.12 crore. During the 2023-24 fiscal year, Hampton Sky Realty Limited (HSRL) reported significant mobile phone sales and exports.

Suspecting irregularities, the ED conducted searches under the FEMA on April 17 last month. The ED raided HSRL and several premises linked to it.

Investigation revealed that many mobile phone supply companies exist only on paper. The GST registration of many firms is either cancelled or suspended. Information emerged about some companies failing to file income tax returns. Based on this, the ED arrested Sanjeev Arora.

Earlier, AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi over ED raids against Punjab industries minister, alleging a misuse of the agency to scare his party leaders into joining the BJP.

Addressing a press conference, former Delhi CM said that though ED and CBI are supposed to work on money laundering and corruption cases, "under Modi rule, these are working to threaten, scare and break away opposition leaders and force them to join the BJP. The raid against Arora is an action in the same direction."
