Facing heat over a viral video of alleged disrespect to Sikh Gurus and religious symbols, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Thursday made an explosive claim in a press conference, saying that the person in the purported video was wearing a face mask.

He alleged that the video was made as part of a conspiracy to defame him politically and religiously. The Punjab CM also said that he was ready to appear before the Akal Takht Sahib if it summoned him today.

He said that whatever decision the Guru Nanak Naam Leva Sangat makes will be acceptable to him. No one is above the Akal Takht. The Chief Minister also questioned the SGPC regarding the religious dispute.

During the press conference, CM Mann presented video evidence on a screen, claiming that the person in the video did not match his height and build.

He also showed the mark of an old operation on his neck and said that the person seen in the viral video does not have any such mark on his neck.

He added that the man in the video is wearing a mask, concealing his true identity. To prove this, Mann also presented another picture before the media, in which a person is seen holding a mask in his hand.

The Chief Minister claimed that the man is currently in Canada. He also said that the location being photographed appears to be a hotel.

The Chief Minister also asserted that he would expose the "director and producer" of this alleged video in the coming days.

He also criticised Haryana Police action, arresting two people for forging digital forensic and cyber analysis records of the said video, saying that it was politically motivated and taken under pressure from the central government.

Notably, the Haryana Police have filed a case alleging that Punjab Police officials pressured a forensic expert to declare the controversial video as fake.

Launching a scathing attack on the opposition, CM Mann said that a joint front of the Congress, BJP, and Akali Dal has now been formed in Punjab.

He claimed that the three parties may appear to be opposing each other on different platforms, but are working together to corner him.
