People took to streets after a 65-year-old man raped and killed a 4-year-old girl in a village in Maharashtra's Pune. An angry mob blocked the Pune-Satara highway on Friday night, causing traffic jams, before senior police officers rushed to the spot to restore order. The enraged residents surrounded the police station and demanded intensive action against the accused.
The police soon responded to the case and arrested the accused and lodged a first information report (FIR) against him under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences Act (Pocso).
What Happened On That Day
The girl was playing near a temple on Friday, May 1, in the afternoon. Afterwards, she was not seen anywhere. After hours of waiting, she did not return home. Following this, her family began searching for her. As hours passed, villagers also joined in. CCTV footage from the area later showed the child being taken towards a cattle shed by a man, which gave the first clue.

During the search, the child’s body was found hidden under a heap of cow dung inside the cattle shed, sending shockwaves through the village. The police were immediately informed after that.
What Did The Investigation Reveal?
The police said that the accused took the girl to the shed after luring her. He sexually assaulted her and then killed her by crushing her with a stone. He later attempted to conceal the crime by burying the body under cow dung.
Reacting to the incident, Nationalist Congress Party MP Supriya Sule said that strict action will be taken against the accused and urged the people to maintain restraint. Meanwhile, former Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh demanded the death penalty for the arrested accused.

Reacting to the incident, the NCP MP made a hard-hitting post, saying, "I have spoken to the Superintendent of Police, Pune Rural, regarding the inhuman incident in Nasrapur, which has tarnished humanity. He has assured me of strictest action against the culprit who committed this heinous crime. I am in constant touch with the government and administration on this matter, and efforts are underway to ensure justice for the victim."
The superintendent of police of Pune Rural said, "My humble request to all citizens is that it is our collective desire that the culprit receives the harshest punishment and the victim receives justice." The police administration has taken into account our aggressive stance in this matter. Please, let us all exercise restraint in this matter. The strictest possible action will be taken against the guilty party in this case."
