Prateek Yadav, half-brother of Samajwadi Party Chief Akhilesh Yadav, passed away at Lucknow's Civil Hospital at the age of 38. As per the reports, Yadav was rushed to the hospital in the early hours of Wednesday after he suddenly fell ill. While the exact reason behind his death has not been disclosed yet, the reports suggest that the son of the late Mulayam Singh Yadav was dealing with mental health issues. Several prominent politicians, including Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Akhilesh Yadav, have expressed their grief.

Prateek Yadav was the second son of former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav and was born to his second wife Sadhna Gupta. While his elder brother Akhilesh Yadav decided to enter into politics, Prateek chose another path for himself. Prateek Yadav was known for being a fitness enthusiast, and he maintained a distance from active politics unlike his other family members.

He held an MBA degree from Leeds University and operated multiple businesses in real estate and fitness entrepreneurship. Earlier in 2011, he married Aparna Bisht (now Aparna Yadav), who is a current member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). She had also unsuccessfully contested from the Lucknow Cantonment constituency on an SP ticket back in 2017.

Earlier in January this year, Prateek alleged his wife was "selfish" and a "family destroyer", adding that he will divorce her soon. "I am going to divorce this selfish woman as soon as possible. She ruined my family ties. All she wants to do is become famous and influential," Prateek said in his post.

"Right now, I am (in) a very bad mental health condition, and she doesn’t bother. That’s because it’s only herself she bothers about. I have never seen such a bad soul, and I was unfortunate to get married to her," he added. However, the couple were seen together on multiple occasions in the next months.
