At a time when the education system in the country is being hotly debated due to the frequent incidents of paper leaks and CBSE marking row, the upcoming Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led NITI Aayog meeting has gained significance, especially as it is set to focus on primary education of children, secondary level education system, extra-curricular activities of children i.e. apart from studies, sports, cultural activities, leadership programs etc

The meeting of the NITI Aayog Governing Council is scheduled for June 11. The meeting is expected to see a debate and deliberation on the kind of policy needed for the development of human resources required for a developed India by the year 2047.

The meeting is expected to be attended by the Chief Ministers of all states and the Lieutenant Governors of Union Territories. According to sources cited by Jagran report, the upcoming meeting will not directly address the paper leak issue but there the Chief Ministers of some states are likely to raise it.

Since the message has already been given to all the states that some important issues related to the education sector are to be discussed, hence the CM are expected to raise the issue and give suggestions in this regard.

Mainly, the focus will be on how to change the existing education system as per the goals of developed India and how to coordinate between the Centre and the states in this regard.

The focus will be on new CMs of Congress ruled states Kerala and Karnataka, who may press the government on paper leak issue.

West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, Kerala Chief Minister VD Satheesan and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Joseph Vijay may participate in this meeting for the first time after the assembly elections in five states.

Discussion on agenda of May huddle with Cabinet, state secretaries

Jagran sources say that the meeting should also be seen in the context of the separate meetings held by PM Modi with all the members of his cabinet and with the chief secretaries of all the states in May 2026.

In the said meetings, PM Modi had asserted that to overcome the challenges arising from the West Asia crisis, it should be given priority to remove the obstacles in the way of doing business at the state level to achieve the goal of Reform Express and Developed India.

Several decisions were made at the Chief Secretaries' meeting that will now be discussed with the Chief Ministers. This includes implementing special programs and schemes for districts and areas freed from Left Wing Extremism. NITI Aayog is also expected to present presentations on some of these topics.
